Retrofit – what Scotland’s Learning Estate can adopt from other projects within the UK

This 2-part session will be delivered by Nick Herd, Principal Consultant, Kier Design and Business Services; and Katherine Adams, Director, Reusefully.

Nick’s presentation will focus upon:

  • Examples of clients who Kier has supported with Low Carbon estate transformation
  • Project methodology - highlighting process / principles which can be adopted for the Scottish Learning Estate
  • The learning outcomes will be: Journey/Output/Benefit and next steps

Katherine’s presentation will focus upon:

  • How thinking about ‘circularity’ and reuse for buildings can provide big benefits, reducing carbon, and improving resource efficiency
  • How Reusefully and Kier are working collaboratively to put ‘circularity’ at the forefront of the redevelopment of the Mayfield Primary School site in Dalkeith
  • The wider benefits of circular thinking to the Scottish Learning Estate and how this sits with the context of Scottish and UK construction
