Safeguarding 2030: Leading Scotland’s Schools Safely Through AI - Lightspeed
Tania Mackie, Director, International. Safeguarding & Digital Transformation, Lightspeed Systems

By 2030, AI will have reshaped how Scotland’s schools safeguard children online. This forward-looking session takes attendees on a structured journey from where we stand today to where we need to be, mapping AI and online safety challenges against GIRFEC, the UNCRC, the National Guidance for Child Protection, and Scotland’s AI Strategy. Through three lenses, governance, teacher practice, and pupil welfare, the speaker explores what leaders need to know, decide, and do now to protect young people in an AI era. Attendees will leave with a practical roadmap towards 2030 and a real-world case study of safeguarding-led cultural change.

Gemini for Learners Pilot Project in Glow

This is an opportunity to find out about the Gemini for Learners pilot that kicked off in August 2026 with Aberdeenshire and South Lanarkshire. The pilot is focusing on how Gemini Education and NotebookLM could be used to support approaches to developing AI literacy in the classroom. The session will include feedback from both teachers and learners and will share how they have been using these tools within Glow, and how they are embedding the Scottish Government’s AI in Education Guidelines and Guardrails into everyday practice.
