Jennifer Freeman, Associate - Architect, NORR Consultants Ltd | Stephen Long, Architect and Associate Director, Scottish Future Trust | Jean Hewitt, Insclusive Design Specialist, Buro Happold

How can our learning estate create inclusive routes that enable every learner to thrive? Inspired by the Scottish Government’s new Sensory-inclusive Learning Environments guide, this panel discussion explores the untapped potential within mainstream design. Drawing on the latest Scottish Government guidance, the session brings together perspectives from authorship, design and delivery to discuss how inclusive principles can be embedded across projects. Through discussion of vision, evidence and application, the panel will share examples and explore how recommendations adapt to different contexts. It also addresses project delivery realities, highlighting how inclusive design decisions create tangible benefits for all.
